Calgary Tower

Calgary Tower
For any of you that have ventured to Calgary , Alberta in the past you will know that it is quite hard to get around the city and not notice the 525 ft tall tower protruding up into the sky.

The Calgary Tower has been a focal point of the city since February 19, 1967 when construction began. Of course it has had plenty of additions since then including telescopes, a revolving Panorama Room and even a glass floor that allows you to really get a whole new view of the city all of which had a hand in making it a must see attraction among many tourists.

Last year when I visited Calgary for the first time with my family I made a point of visiting the Calgary Tower. We had already been to the Calgary Zoo and swung by the Saddle Dome and took a stroll down the Stephen Avenue Walk when we finally made it to here. I had been wanting to check out the tower since we arrived in the city and I was a little excited.

The view was defiantly worth checking out, you could see the entire city and even watch the birds play. I was able to get some great pictures from here and it was absolutely priceless to watch the look on my two year old son's face as he walked out on the glass floor. We were hoping to grab some lunch from the towers restaurant the Sky360 but were disappointed to find that it was closed.

My overall thoughts on this site is that it was defiantly neat to see but not one of my favourites. I personally found it to be expensive for the amount of time actually spent there. My family and I were able to spend over seven hours at the Calgary Zoo for only $38.00 and it cost us $28.00 for just twenty minutes at the tower.

Though I thought the view was impressive I probably will not make a trip back here unless its at night (I think it would be absolutely amazing to see the city lit up and a sea of stars overhead) or I am trying out their restaurant. It just didn't offer enough for me to want to make multiple trips.

My final advice for visiting the Calgary Tower is this...
- you want some amazing pictures then be sure to stop by, make sure your camera has lots of space left on it and your batteries are fully charged. There are plenty of ways you can get creative with your pictures just use your imagination!
-Take some change with you, there is binoculars here that allow you to see the city close up for miles away but it costs money.
-If you have a fear of heights then this is defiantly not somewhere you should be visiting (seems obvious but some people tend to forget about the height factor).
-The restaurant is only open for lunch and supper so if you are planning on dinning here then I would advice that you call ahead to find out their hours and possibly even make a reservation.
-If you would like to add something to your trips itinerary that will provide you with plenty of entertainment and give you the most bang for your buck then I advice you simply skip the Calgary Tower and check out one of the many other attractions the city of Calgary has to offer.
